Artist's Notes

Originally conceived as part of the Gentle Music for Massage series, Gentle Blessings evolved during the course of production into a little something more. When Jim Moeller, president of Serenity, heard some of my early mixes of the album, he was moved to approach me, and ask whether I might be open to joining with him in dedicating the album to two people who had had a profound influence on his life, Malinda and Marge Schlarman of Schlarman's Health Center in Ohio.

To understand the impact that these two powerful healers have had on the life of Jim Moeller, and countless others with whom they have come into contact, I am re-producing Jim's evocative testimonial, as found in the Gentle Blessings liner notes.

Liner notes from Jim Moeller, President of Serenity

Dear Listener,

Each day God has "blessed" me with so many wonderful things. Unfortunately, I seldom stop and say thanks for all of the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the singing crickets, the roses that not only shock the eyes but deliver a fragrance of heaven as well. The list of "gentle blessings" could go on endlessly.

Several years ago God placed a "gentle blessing" in my life in the form of an elderly woman, Malinda Schlarman, and her daughter, Marge, and their 40-year old family business called Schlarman's Health Center.

The health center, on their farm, is stocked with herbs, homeopathic remedies, vitamins, organic foods, and a wealth of health related products like I had never seen. Yet, there was something different about this center; something I could not easily define. But, as time went on it became clear that the difference between Schlarman's, and other places, was the presence of God. It was not a thing that was expressed verbally. It was an action, a method, a "gentleness" in which God was invited to be present.

Schlarman's Health Center

A year later Malinda died in an auto accident and only then did I hear the hundreds of "client" stories. In the days that followed, many talked of the countless nights, weekends, and holidays that phone calls were made to Malinda asking for help.

The thing few people knew is that every visitor, myself included, was prayed for when coming to the center. Few knew of the thousands of times Malinda walked to St. Wendelin Church, a small church close by, to pray for the client and to light a candle for God's will to be done. Few people knew that both mother and daughter rose long before dawn to pray for the people God was about to send to them, as well as those already sent.

The church custodian told me that they gave Malinda a key to the church because of her frequent visits at all hours of the day and night. He said that after a snow fall he would go in at 5AM to plow snow and it was not uncommon to see these small footprints leading to and from the church.

Although Malinda now watches over the clients from a "gentler" place, nothing has changed at the center. Prayers continue to be offered by all of the employees and I have watched people literally change their way of life after being helped at the center, myself included.

I will be indebted to them for the rest of my life. They helped me change in body, mind, and spirit and they did it with the "gentleness" of God. For that reason I want to dedicate this album, "Gentle Blessings", to both of them, and all that they stand for.

May the music by Pat Clemence offer you a bit of the "gentle blessings" that are so graciously offered on the Schlarman Health Center farm. We offer this to all of you, "In His Name, Amen."

In God's Love,

Jim Moeller

Some thoughts while listening...

1. Gentle Blessings - At the Health Center, "gentle blessings" are offered throughout the day. Yet, much is happening. Lots of health questions, lots of answers, lots of tears, lots of laughter. As one watches, it is like a "gentle dance" where all the employees and clients are "dancing in the fields of the Lord". Windows Media: Gentle Blessings

2. Prayers Before Dawn - Feel the softness as you listen to the music. One can almost hear the prayers being offered and the response from a "Higher Place". A musical prayer.

3. Sunrise at the Farm - At the farm, there is no time that one feels closer to God than just befrore sunrise. There is absolute quiet before nature awakens its creatures to go about their appointed business of the day.

4. In His Name, We Thank Thee - Nothing happens at the Health Center, without a thank- you to God. Hear the "please" and "thank you" in the soft and gentle music. Windows Media: In His Name, We Thank Thee
